Kurama Ryu is said to be the direct descendent of Kyo-Hachi Ryu, or the 8 styles which originated in Kyoto at the end of 12 th century. Little fact is known about its founder, Ohno Shokan as the record has been lost during WW2. The style became widely known when the 15th head master, Shibata Emori became the Kenjutsu instructor for the Japanese metropolitan police and one of the Kurama Ryu technique,"Henka"was adopted as one of the 10 Kenjutsu kata officially practiced by Japanese metropolitan police known as "Keishi Ryu". "Henka", commonly known as "Makiotoshi" by modern Kendo practitioners is definitely one of the most sophisticated and effective technique in Japanese Kenjutsu arsenal. The style is curently active in Tokyo area. Kurama Ryu Bokken features almost no sori ( blade curvature) and comes fitted with a wooden tsuba. Length 105cm (approx 41"), weight: 990grams ( approx 35oz). White oak, urethane coated. Variet of wood selection and finish available upon request.
