Jikishin Kage Ryu is a Shinkage Ryu based style with heavy emphasis on "Kokyu" or proper coordination of breathing and movement. Also the style is known for its use of super heavy back breaking
"Furibo", some weighing well over 100lbs, for suburi exercise. Working with such heavy furibo definitely forces one to work on proper coordination of breathing and movement or one can end up with an pretty bad back injury. The style was one of the most widely practiced Kenjutsu style in late Edo period due to its practicality and modern ,effective training methods.
Kenkichi Sakakibara and
Otani Seiichiro are highly respected swordsmen who mastered and taught Jikishin Kage Ryu in late Edo period. It is also known that the founder of
Daito Ryu Aikijiujutsu,
Takeda Sokaku also trained extensively in this school along with
Ono-ha Itto Ryu. The Jikishin Kage Ryu Bokken is the second heaviest among our stylized bokkens ( the heaviest being the Tennen Rishin Ryu Bokken ).It has fat blade and tsuka (handle) suitable for developing proper tenouchi ( grip ). Recommended for strengthening suburi. Available in Japanese white oak or red oak,urethane coated. Variety of wood selection and finish available upon request.
